2010 Topps Attax NFL

Topps Sell Sheet (http://www.toppsonlinestore.com/servlet/the-649/Detail)

Per Box Items
36 packs per box
6 cards per pack
One foil card or one code in every pack
The foil cards are Red, ("Red Zone") Platinum ("Superstar") and Sepia ("Legend")
Other items available include Rookie Autograph cards.

The standard trading card sized cards feature a full color player photo on the card fronts. The colored backgrounds fade into white borders. The player's name and position are listed on the upper left corner of the card and the team logo is shown on the upper right. Along the card bottom are three different colored circles that list an attribute and rating for each player. Offensive players have "Hitch," "Slant," and "Post" as the attributes and Defensive players are rated on "Tackle," and "Turnover." The green card backs list the set name and logo and are the same for all cards to give the "playing card" look. The only difference on the backs is that player's team logo is shown and if they are an "offense" or "defense" card.

My first box from Topps and the first box of a sports trading card game. This was a very fun box. Topps trying to target a younger generation and get them started into collecting. This product certainly fits the bill. The card design is simple and clean. The photography is sharp and the perfect collation makes up for the fact that these are really playing cards, not regular trading cards with standard card backs.

The game itself is actually pretty easy to learn and play, especially if you played the MLB version. The game is rated for ages six and up and my seven your old son learned it very quickly. As you play cards from your hand if your attribute number is higher than the corresponding attribute score of your opponent, you win that encounter, resulting in either a touchdown, field-goal, loss of down or turn over. There are no numbers to add or subtract, no dice to roll or other tables or charts to reference, just whose number is bigger. The games can be fast paced and high scoring. All of these reasons evidence the fact that Topps is trying to attract younger collectors.

The Bottom Line:
I give 2010 Topps Attax NFL a BUY rating. You should be able to complete a base set pretty easy with two boxes and some light trading. There are different pictures for the base cards and the foil parallels. The code cards have the same picture as the base cards though. The set/game is designed for younger collectors, but set, team and player collectors will find this interesting as well.

The Final Score:
Final Ratings (Out of 5):
Base set collect-ability: 3/5
Big-hit Hunter: N/A
Prospector Hunter: N/A
Overall Design: 4/5
Fun: 5/5
Value: 5/5
Re-buy: 5/5
Overall Quality: 5/5

Overall: 27/30 (90% = A)
