2010 Topps Update Series - MLB

Per Box Items: (hobby box)
36 packs per box
10 cards per pack
1 autograph or relic per box

The standard sized cards look much the same as other Topps products for this year. Topps Series One and Series Two, Topps Chrome and Topps NFL base set also all have a simple clean design to the card fronts. The white bordered cards have a splash of color on the left side of the front. The color varies according to the team's primary colors. The player name and team name are on the bottom of the card fronts. The team name is done in the official team font. The card backs are all in horizontal format. There is a small photo on the left side of the card backs. Moderate biographical information, moderate career highlights, and complete Major League statistics are featured. Again the side of the card is trimmed in the teams primary color. The card numbers all have a "US" prefix. Unlike Topps series 1 and 2, Update series actually has quite a few horizontal format card fronts.

I was unsure at first, but I really enjoy and compliment Topps for sticking with the same solid design across all of their products this year. Strong photography and awesome player selection are strong points Topps Update Series includes cards of players who switched teams during the year, mid-season call ups All-Star and Home Run Derby cards all with the appropriate logos. I also really like the horizontal layout of some of the cards. The auto is a sticker auto but it is designed to fit the card. Holy insert overload! There are over 100 cards that are not part of the base set in the box. I like good inserts and enjoy the chase just as much as the next guy, but I would have been happier with half the inserts and 50 more base set cards.

The Bottom Line:
I give 2010 Topps Update Series a buy rating. You should be able to complete the base set with a box and a half and some light trading. If you like inserts and chasing them than this offering form Topps is for you! Go buy a box and trade your Tigers to me!

The Final Score:
Final Ratings (Out of 5):
Base set collect-ability: 4/5
Big-hit Hunter: 2/5
Prospector Hunter:5/5
Overall Design: 5/5
Fun: 5/5
Value: 4/5
Re-buy: 4/5
Overall Quality: 5/5

Overall: 34/40 (85% = B)

As always I am offering base cards to members of The Bench for a SASE

Thanks to Topps for making this review possible!
