Like many of the older collectors we started collecting baseball cards in the 40/50's. most of the cards were flipped against concrete steps or put in the spokes of your bicycle. Not many were ever put into complete sets because money was usually on short supply and as the older we got we needed the money for other things like girls and gas for our cars. The old baseball cards were put in shoe boxes and stored in a closet. Usually when we later went back home after serving in the military, going to college we found mom had thrown out the box of cards or a younger brother took over the cards and wouldn't relinquish them (my case). In 1990 I found a box of 1975 cards in the garage that my son had collected. With that find I opened a small card shop and started trading and selling cards. Kept the shop open for several years and I had decided to get involved with the town government as town manager so I had to give up the shop. I kept about 50 sets that I had completed on my own and sold off the remainder of the shops inventory in 1992. After retirement from the town manager I decided to get back to card collecting. I started buying boxes of cards, making sets for my grandson and selling or trading the remainder on e-bay of SCF card trading site. I have since put together over 200 complete sets and have thousands of extra cards in topps, bowman, donruss, heritage, upper deck. Now that the SCF site has ceased operation I have selected this site to keep on trading cards. I am 78 years old, in bad health and don't know how much longer I have to deal with the cards. If you need anything send me
a want list and I will try to help you the best I can. f I can help you and you cannot help me no problem. I will try to meet you needs even with no trade involved.
Like to see collectors get what they need. Once I have bought the cards, got what I needed, the rest are up for grabs. Also retired from the USAF in 1975, and
I retired from the Bar & Restaurant Business in 1989 (Owned and operated a motel, restaurant and bar for 13 years). Goo luck in your card trading. Lou

    Hi Lou,

Welcome to The Bench! (It's Trevor from SCF, "Red Sox Prospector")...

I just got online after a few weeks off from trading, and I am sad to see that SportsCardFun has gone offline... but I'm glad to see you ended up here -- I think you'll really like it. Let me know if you have any questions about The Bench.

I guess I need to find a new place to keep my trade page...

    Best regards,
    Trevor

Thanks for your inquiry about my health. Not getting any better but then its not getting any worse for now.
Have some good doctors and nurses that keep me doing the right things to help the situation.
Glad to see SCF back on line. I think once I get all the little problems I don't understand figured out I think this
    site will be fine.
