The Bench 2018 Sports Talk Thread

I forgot the wanting to play with AD talk. He did have quite the busy week. I'm still counting the "great music" take as his 4th verbal mishap. I know full well that quality of music is a subjective thing but I challenge anyone to make a case that the song in question is "great music" on any level.

The only two sports journalists to take LBJ to task that I know of is the ever politically incorrect Clay Travis and Jason Whitlock. Whitlock made the point is the problem with LBJ and the SJW stances are he never gets any push back from anyone so pretty much anything he says goes unchallenged by the media. He is totally protected from that by his management. The song lyric incident is the one exception and even there the push back was mild. If he actually had to back up his ridiculous takes he would be totally exposed.

How times have changed from the days of Jim Brown, Bill Russell and Ali where taking a stand was extremely physically dangerous. Back then it concerned things like voting rights, being relegated to the back of the bus and separate bathrooms and restaurants. . Now our brave SJWs are concerned with such important Civil Rights issues as slave owner mentality in the NFL. Aren't 1st World problems these days just so tragic?

I tend to agree with you on all points made....I think this is the point I need to examine the words I repeat ad nauseum to my son - I think we are at the point that a hand grenade could potentially go off in this thread.....

Maybe 2019 will bring us a LeBron exclusive thread where we can recount his deeds, both good and not as good.


First time I can ever remember a bowl game being cancelled - the Cheeze It Bowl in Dallas shut down last night due to weather. Smart choice, but a bummer for players/fans alike. Shame they couldn't figure out a way to get it played.

Interesting night last night with both the Lakers and Warriors going down with last second 3 pointers.

With the acquisitions this year by the Lakers (Rondo, Chandler and Stephenson), I am wondering if the Lakers are attempting to match up with the Warriors much like the Spurs used to build their roster to specifically match up against the Shaq/Kobe Lakers? All three of those guys are tough, hard-nosed defenders which is exactly what the Lakers were not. I think they are looking to muck it up in the playoffs against not only the finesse Warriors but against the Rockets as well. The Lakers really signed 3 old fashioned players with those three whose styles of play are deemed obsolete by many in today's NBA.

I really think we need more college bowl games. Things have just not been the same since they did away with the Beef O'Brady Bowl. Ahhhh the memories! At least we still have the Battle Frog Bowl and the Dollar General Bowl to keep tradition alive.

Chiefs finishing off the Raiders 35-3......The Raiders should move to San Diego (empty stadium)........next year....as in 2020 They move to Las Vegas. Best regards, David

Poor Chargers.....tied with Chiefs 12-4 with the best record in the AFL and they don't get the second bye. Rule should be charged so that the best two teams get the bye....not just the division winners. Best regards, David

He looked like an average Joe with a deer in the headlights look on his face. All the arrogance and cockiness was beaten out of him by Ohio State and Florida. Michigan fans are nuts if they think they want him to leave the program as he is as good as they are going to get but he really looked beaten down at that presser. I for one, totally bought into U of M having a top tier teams after watching them against Notre Dame and they sure looked elite until the last two games.

Wrapping up the year in sports by discussing an amazing watering hole seems apropos! One of my best friends in Tampa, her ex-boyfriend/fiancee, was the owner when we were visiting. Usually after Indians spring training games - always had a blast.

I can't stand U of M, so watching them get dusted always makes me happy. The only time I wish them success is when they are playing Penn State.
