    2019 NBA Draft Thread

With all the underclassman declaring....thought it would be nice to have a thread for discussion of how the ping pong balls may fall. Potential trades. And what teams need to fill gaps in their roster.

Just yesterday - Ja Morant (Murray State) declared. Coby White (North Carolina) declared. I know a kid from LSU declared, but can't remember his name right now.

Odds are that the Knicks, Suns or Cavs will get the #1 overall....Although he hasn't declared yet, I am sure Zion will and he will be the first selection, no matter who gets it.

I think the ping pong balls will fall just right and the Los Angeles Lakers end up with the 1st pick.

SymphonicMetal had the same conspiracy theory...... If that happens, there is no way anything the NBA ever does again can be taken seriously. And I will believe every word that Tim Donaghy ever wrote about refs and how they fixed games and probably still do!!!!!

My personal theory is that the opposite will happen - the Lakers will somehow end up the last possible lottery pick (#14??), because everyone is just sick of LeBron.

Romeo Langford (Indiana) declares yesterday - projected as a lottery pick.

Trying to figure out who the first senior taken in the draft will be -- leaning towards Cam Johnson out of UNC.....

And still not sure why RJ Barrett is getting so much love as a top 3 pick - he showed me nothing this year that screamed franchise player. When Zion went down, he should have stepped up and carried the team - which he didn't. Maybe that is on Coach K for not knowing how to gameplan, but they still had 3 of the top 15 freshmen on the floor and got housed.

Yes, I have been fretting about the Lakers getting Zion since the NBA all star break. I can just see that set up since the Lakers are the premier franchise in the NBA and the Association would love to see them return to their previous glory. I really think the fix is in.

I have to look at some NBA mock drafts because I want to see where the 1st team All American point guard from MSU is projected to go. I have seen him play a few games and I just don't see how he is a 1st Team All American and the Big Ten player of the year. I know he had some gaudy stats but I am mystified how he is doing that because he seems to dribble, dribble, dribble and run the shot clock down. I don't think he is an exceptional shooter or driver so I have no idea where he'd fit in to the NBA. I also don't see a lot of athleticism like you do with Ja Marant so I'll be curious as to his slot in the draft.

I think there is no way in the world Zion ends up in Cleveland or Phoenix. I am wondering if he goes to the Knicks and Kyrie and Durant soon follow. That trio would change the power structure (not that there is much of one) in the East.

And I am wondering if the NBA wants to have Zion in New York with the Knicks dysfunctional front office. I'm not sure if the draft comes before free agency or not but I doubt the NBA wants Zion in NY if Durant or Kyrie is not there. That leads me to believe it is going to "miraculously" end up with the Lakers winning the lottery.

Plus, the NBA backloaded their national TV schedules with Laker games thinking Lebron would be playing and the Lakers would be in a playoff seeding battle. They have to be taking a ratings beating on these constant Laker games and I really believe the NBA is going to have a Laker resurrection come Hell or high water.

Let's play this one out in our heads - the Knicks get the number one but either trade it away or take someone other than Zion. I can see Dolan doing that just to keep sticking it to Knicks fans.

If Zion goes to LeBron (I mean the Lakers), I absolutely see holy heck breaking loose. If you think the Warriors are a super team - you know a group will get together, simply to keep LeBron from winning it all again. LeBron can't get guys to commit Space Jam 2, how is he going to get guys to play entire seasons with him - he is about as close to a pariah in sports that I can remember.

KD/Kyrie/Zion in Madison Square Garden would be insane.....But I think Kyrie is getting traded to the Pelicans and AD will be in Boston next year.

Several more have declared...Williams out of Tennessee, PJ washington from Kentucky and a kid from Auburn.

More notable -- Tre Jones is STAYING at Duke for at least one more year. Smart decision - hopefully he will use the additional time to learn how to shoot.

RJ Barrett has declared out of Duke. Still no word on Reddish or Zion, although, it has to be an afterthought at this point????

I looked at some mock drafts and Cassius Winston, who has not declared, is only considered to be a 2nd round pick at best. I know there are differences between the pro and college game but 1st team AA and Big Ten player of the year and is only considered a 2nd round pick is surprising. I just did not see any sure fire NBAers on Michigan State's Final Four team.

Honestly, I am not surprised at all - the number of All Americans that don't do well in the pros is staggering....Just like there is a ton of McDonald's All Americans who don't pan out in college. As a Carolina fan, I can name a couple off the top of my head -- Tyler Hansbrough. Marcus Paige. Brice johnson. Luke Maye will be added to that list. Not a Tar Heel, but Christian Laettner is considered by many to be the greatest collegiate player of all time -- he flat out stunk in the NBA.

If that happened - it would be a crazy good starting lineup in Sacramento -- Fox/Barnes/Hield/Zion/can't remember center right now, all I can think of is Cauley-Stein...

Bunch more declared for the draft, none of whom I can remember - except that there are now 5 guys from LSU in the draft. Decent team -- but not sure how they would have 5 drafted players.....

Zion is officially in the draft now. Have to assume he will go #1. Guy, Jerome, Hunter all declared from UVa.

Not even sure when they rig, I mean pull, the ping pong balls. Is it during the conference finals????

    1 - Zion
    2 - Ja Morant
3 - RJ Barrett (not sure why, but a GM will take the bait)
    4 - Coby White
    5 - Deandre Hunter

I will go with that as my Top 5, without seeing who is drafting where..and what their needs are.

The other UVa big man declared yesterday.

Number of players in the draft pool right now, just from the 3 best teams in the ACC -- 12. Number of players from LSU -- 5. I am hoping that many, many of these kids are just testing the waters. Otherwise they are going to be at best 2nd round picks, and potentially undrafted free agents......
