as I inch closer to my base Topps sets from the 80's I have a question. While it is near impossible to find singles in LCS, or at shows I am wondering if it would be worth it to buy an unopened box for the 81, 82, and 83 sets as I am less than 300 away from those. 85 is over 500 hundred to go so it seems like that one would be worth it. It seems like there is not the lots on ebay like there used to be and even though it's the "junk wax years" I feel like they are really hard to come by.

any advice is appreciated

Thanks

Keep an eye on auctions by you I was auctionzip. I got a box of 81s for 10 dollars to finish a set a few years ago. People are just not buying sports cards like they use to I was the only bidder out of about 150

I bet if you post your wantlists on the set building forum, you will have more offers than you will know what to do with. Just be wary of those who are still using a Beckett's from 1985 for their valuations.

Good luck and I will keep an eye out for your lists. I am sure I will be able to help.

I would second this option -- betting there are folks on here that would welcome a chance to trade some of their 80's stuff, especially in larger volume trades!

Hey Kirby,
Although the early '80s may not be in value what they used to be, they wouldn't be considered junk wax, which would start, by most definitions, around '86 on... if you are interested in trading, I have these available in NM:
