08-04-2019, 05:19 PM #1The 2019 NFL Thread
Since the pre-season kicked off last night, might as well get a thread going for the upcoming season.
Already some interesting stuff going on (not including Ed Reed's 35 minute HOF acceptance speech!!).
Two big ones for me:
1 - Zeke not showing up for Cowboys camp...and doing his training in Cabo.
2 - Melvin Gordon not showing up for Chargers camp...and demanding a trade.
Surely seems that RB's are not the treasured item that they once were in the NFL! QB/WR/Rush End/CB/LT -- that is who is getting paid.Building Topps sets from 1969 to the present. Always looking for Puckett cards.

08-05-2019, 07:01 AM #3Here's to hoping that the Browns can actually do something this year and gain on the momentum they had at the end of last year. I am just hoping that they make the playoffs. It has been a LONG time since I watched a Browns playoff game. I think that Beckham has something to prove and can use that. And him and Landry playing together again can hopefully help both of them. And I will admit that I hated picking Mayfield first in the draft but that has looked like a great pick. I really like players who play with confidence and play with a chip on their shoulder.

08-08-2019, 03:54 PM #5I am not sure what to think of the Browns this year -- thinking they may still be a year away from the playoffs, but they have a shot, and worst case, will be interesting to watch.
Crazy that Gore is still going - the Energizer bunny of RB's.... i think if more owners could get a guarantee that their young backs would last as long as Gore has, they would ante up a bit earlier in the career.
Melvin Gordon now wants to be traded out of San Diego..I think he is truly over-valuing his worth.
More importantly - Antonio Brown managed to get frostbite on both feet, in the middle of summer...brilliant! Apparently cryo-therapy rules must be followed for a reason!
Pre-season games start tonight -- hopefully every team is able to make it to the regular season without any major injuries!!!Building Topps sets from 1969 to the present. Always looking for Puckett cards.

08-12-2019, 12:48 PM #6How happy are Steelers fans that #84 is no longer their issue to deal with??? Between the frostbitten feet and now saying he will retire if he can't use his old helmet style, Hard Knocks must be loving life! Curious to see what happens with the Raiders this year..could be great..could be a trainwreck!

08-20-2019, 03:05 PM #7Two words that may have just crushed the Cowboys hopes for a Super Bowl title this year - "Zeke, who?". Everybody who heard Jerry Jones say it, knew it was in humor, except for Zeke and all the folks around him.
Even more important - will Antonio Brown be able to find a helmet that he likes. So many Steelers fans that I know couldn't be happier that AB84 is out of their lives and someone elses problem!Building Topps sets from 1969 to the present. Always looking for Puckett cards.

08-21-2019, 12:28 PM #8Straight out of Necessary Roughness -- Carli Lloyd (womens soccer player) drilled a 55 yard FG at Eagles camp yesterday. That was after consistently knocking 40+ yarders through the uprights... If only Scott Bakula was her holder.

08-23-2019, 06:10 PM #9First "big" injury out of the pre-season, Cam Newton goes down with an ankle sprain....Don't think the Panthers are headed to the super bowl this year, but losing Cam for any period of time will definitely hurt.

Whats wrong with more than a few football fans. Andrew luck has been beat up and injured says he is still in pain and his fans boo him at the news of his retirement. I would think a thank you for what he did was called for.

08-26-2019, 06:13 AM #11I think people are upset because he blind sided everyone. Most people found out about this at the game they were at. I know that I would be upset. Andrew Luck was paid very well as a football player. I do n ot believe that he just got up that morning and decided he was going to retire. He just did this at the wrong time and he should not be surprised that people are going to be upset.

08-26-2019, 12:09 PM #12I am kind of torn on this issue - should he have been booed..should he have gotten applause - almost feel like the appropriate response would have been just stunned silence. My best guess is - it was halftime, it was preseason - if you were at the game, you were probably drinking and hence the reaction. Heck the boos may have come mainly from folks that already had their fantasy drafts and just saw their #1 QB option disappear for the season.
I am still torn on how the Colts handled the whole Manning/Luck thing. If they had decided to tank one more year with an injured Peyton, they could have traded that #1 pick to anyone for an absolute haul of picks/players and STILL been in the drivers seat to get a franchise QB the following year if they decided to. I liked the selection of Luck, but thought they could have parlayed it into SO MUCH more.
Also from the AFC South -- Lamar Miller of the Texans out for the year with an ACL tear. Jacksonville is your new money favorite - life just keeps coming up roses for Nick Foles....Building Topps sets from 1969 to the present. Always looking for Puckett cards.

08-28-2019, 04:15 PM #13A little bummed that Carli Lloyd isn't' suiting up to kick tomorrow night, but instead playing a friendly for the USWNT. I am all in for her getting a shot to kick in the NFL - if she can kick 55 yarders without any coaching or real practice - bring it on! And lord knows she won't be any worse than 50% of the other kickers in terms of ability to tackle if necessary.

Should she get a shot yes. Now I ask, Can she kick in full uniform? Can she kick in mud ,high winds, cold and on both grass and turf. Just because someone can kick a 55 yarder in practice to me means nothing. When I was a kid a young pitcher hit over 100 mph. He didn't last very long at all. But all the best luck to her.

08-28-2019, 07:48 PM #15That is a valid question that can apply to all sports. How many hoops players have looked great posting up folding chairs and guys with brooms. How many football players look great during workouts. How many baseball players look great at Triple AAA. My guess is that she won't be able to handle everything associated with kicking (particularly some of the items you mentioned) - but with a year of training under her belt, curious to see how she does. Again, Kathy Ireland made it look EASY!!! And she kicked in a rainstorm to get her squad a 3-3 tie with Kansas.....Ed "straight arrow" generro was pleased!
