That sounds like a great idea for a new thread - best/most fitting song lyrics. I may be wrong (and probably am) - the lyric I like best is from Def Leppard - Rock of Ages -- "It is better to burn out, than to fade away". Would have to check dates to see who used it first, but it was also used in the movie Highlander in the church scene.

To go along with RUSH.... "a brilliant Red Barchetta from a better vanished time...."

The thought of the past as better but having vanished is so genuine, making one wonder if it was actually so great or if the memories we hold on to make the vanished time seem so much better! In any event, brilliant lyricism!

For Monty Python fans its sad that Terry Jones on Jan. 21 at age 77. I was that before Monty Python was formed there was nothing funny in England. Loved the show and most of the movies.

Was out of town most of today, my phone was buzzing with updates, but ignored them figuring it was more political updates that I had no interest in looking at. Got home and saw a ton of sales on ebay, all my Kobe Bryant stuff was snatched up at full price, by many different people, which seemed very, very weird. Before I know it, I heard my son flip the TV on and first words out of his mouth were "Dad, Kobe is dead".

I have never been a fan of Kobe, but it absolutely hit me like a bolt of lightning. Especially after last night when LeBron passed him for 3rd all time on the scoring list and the interviews and tweets were so fitting and well conceived, from both sides.

Way to young! And with his 14 year old daughter with him. Heartfelt condolences to all the victims and their families as well.

Same thought. Was never a Kobe fan, but a sad day indeed. Felt like with Kobe and Kevin Garnett they were like Kirby Puckett and Albert Belle. Both talented but one was bubbly and outgoing, the other sullen and moody, but won't deny Kobe was one of the top 20, possibly to 10 of all time. And how Ironic that taking his daughter to practice the way he would go to practice and games, by helicopter to avoid LA traffic, would cost him his life. Heart goes out to Vanessa, the other 3 kids, and the families of the others who passed.
