I'm wondering the best way to organize my collection... by team, by year, set, etc.... also what computer program do you use to input them so they are easily searchable... thanks in advance

The best way would be whatever is most useful for YOU to manage.
I use Beckett.com to look up cards then I copy and paste into Notepad to format them. Once I have it "tab delimited" I copy and paste into Excel. I usually add the team, card type, and serial-numbering so I have different "categories" to sort by.
I guess it boils down to how much time you have along with what resources/programs you have available to you.
